Undergraduate Fellowship Program

Training undergraduate students in industry-relevant skills by implementing industry-aligned, hands-on curricula:

  • Experiential learning and hands-on exposure to cleanroom process, equipment, virtual prototyping of manufacturing processes and device fabrication, and full chip design using a CMOS foundry PDK

  • Leverage minor in semiconductor engineering at UIUC and semiconductor manufacturing track at UIC to expose students to industry-standard tools

  • Deploy courses at IIT and CSU by sharing course components developed at UIUC and UIC

Samsung Program:

  • Provide 50 scholars with opportunities for scholarship, mentoring, academic support and participation in an innovative curriculum that advances the semiconductor ecosystem

  • Open to GCOE students from ECE, ISE, MatSE, MechSE, NPRE, and Physics

  • Also provides funds to faculty for enhancements and advancements in:
    • Equipment for instructional labs
    • Course development
    • Summer and Winter REU
    • Access fees and material support for students registered in individual study project courses

  • $5000 Scholarship: $2.5k Fall 2025 + $2.5k Spring 2026
  • Requirements:
    • Undergraduate student in the Grainger College of Engineering
    • Technical GPA of at least 3.0
    • Committed to completing the GCOE Minor in Semiconductor Engineering:
      • Must have already completed 1 course in the minor
      • Must be taking an additional course towards the minor each semester
